Energy-Efficient Portable RO Seawater Desalination Technology and Applications
Ⅰ. Technology Overview
The energy-efficient portable reverse osmosis (RO) desalination technology uses a manual pump to pressurize seawater above 4.5 MPa, allowing water molecules to pass through a 0.0001-micron RO membrane while removing salts, bacteria, viruses, and other contaminants to produce safe drinking water.
Its key innovation is an energy recovery manual high-pressure pump developed by Chimey. Unlike conventional designs that rely on multiple seals, this system uses the natural osmotic pressure difference across the membrane to drive the control valve, enabling automatic switching, reducing wear, and improving durability.
This significantly reduces the number of dynamic sealing components, fundamentally lowering leakage risk and improving system reliability by 2–3 times. The technology has been filed for an invention patent titled “A Hydraulic Directional Control Energy Recovery Method and Push-Type High-Pressure Pump” (CN120120309A).

Energy Recovery
2. Product Introduction
Building on the innovative energy recovery manual high-pressure pump technology, Chimey has developed a portable, single-user manual RO water purifier. Designed with a core focus on “power-free emergency use and high-efficiency portability,” the device is widely applicable in marine survival, field search and rescue, disaster response. Requiring no external power supply, it enables users to manually convert various water sources into safe drinking water, making it a critical solution for emergency water supply.
The unit adopts a reverse osmosis (RO) process, driven by a manual energy recovery pump for water intake and pressurization. Raw water is pressurized and fed into the RO membrane for separation. The concentrate stream passes through an energy recovery system, which recovers up to 90% of pressure energy and redirects it back into the pump chamber, further increasing membrane pressure and enhancing purification efficiency.
The system can stably treat seawater with salinity ≤ 35,000 mg/L, and is also suitable for rivers, lakes, brackish water, and contaminated surface water. The produced water has a salinity of 200–500 mg/L and meets the requirements of the “Standards for Drinking Water Quality” (GB 5749-2022).
