In recent years, extreme weather and sudden environmental incidents have occurred frequently, making safe drinking water supply a core component of the public emergency response system. Supported by continuous national policy incentives and improved industrial standards, China’s emergency drinking water sector is advancing rapidly toward standardization, intelligence, modularization and low-carbon development, delivering more reliable drinking water security for disaster rescue, field operations, remote areas and sudden pollution emergencies.

On March 1, 2026, China’s first dedicated health standard for sudden drinking water pollution incidents, Hygiene Standards for Emergency Water Supply in Sudden Drinking Water Pollution Incidents (WS/T 10038-2025), was officially implemented. It clarifies water quality indicators, testing methods and disposal requirements for emergency water supply, further standardizing the whole process of emergency water supply and driving the industry’s upgrade from simple emergency water provision to safe, controllable and rapidly compliant water supply.
Driven by both policies and market demand, technological iteration in emergency water supply has accelerated. Mobile water purification vehicles, modular emergency water treatment equipment and portable purification devices have become mainstream solutions, which can rapidly treat surface water, groundwater and polluted water sources to meet national drinking water standards. Widely adopted technologies including solar hybrid power, low-energy membrane separation, ultraviolet disinfection and real-time IoT monitoring enable stable water supply in off-grid areas, remote operation and maintenance, and full traceability of water quality.
Meanwhile, multiple regions across China are accelerating the development of emergency reserve systems, incorporating emergency drinking water and water supply equipment into key security catalogs. Governments and enterprises jointly build a three-tier guarantee network featuring pre-positioned reserves, rapid deployment and on-site water production. During floods, droughts, earthquakes and other disaster relief operations, emergency water supply equipment has been efficiently deployed to effectively block the spread of water-borne diseases and provide stable drinking water for rescue teams and affected populations.
Looking ahead, the emergency drinking water industry will continue to focus on high-efficiency purification, rapid deployment, low-carbon durability and portable usability. It will deepen domestic technological independence and scenario-based innovation, steadily enhance water supply capacity under extreme conditions, and consolidate the bottom line of public security and people’s livelihood health through technological advancement.
